ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (APP): A
five-member parliamentary delegation, currently visiting Turkey, called on the
Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and discussed matters pertaining to
strengthening relations and to enhance cooperation between the two countries.The
delegation includes Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali, Deputy Chairman, Senate,
Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker, National Assembly, Senator Lt. Gen. (Retd)
Javed Ashraf Qazi, MNAs Begum Ishrat Ashraf and Cap. (Retd) Rai Ghulam Mujtaba
Kharal.
The Turkish Speaker Mehmet Ali
Sahin extended warm welcome to the Pakistani delegation and reiterated the
strength of the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey.
He said the two countries
enjoyed exemplary relations at parliamentary level and parliamentary exchanges
will further strengthen the relations.
The Speaker also appreciated
the role of PILDAT for strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in
Pakistan. He said that Turkey will always remain a friend and supporter of
Pakistan.
Earlier, the delegation held a
meeting with the Chairs and the members of the Defence Commission of Turkey, the
Planning and Budget Commission, the Largest Commission of Grand National
Assembly of Turkey and the Interior Affairs Commission.
The Pakistani Delegation was
briefed about the oversight mechanism, powers and procedure available to Turkish
Commissions, especially relating to the Defence and intelligence oversight.
The delegation also held a
detailed meeting with the Chairperson and Members of Pak-Turkey Friendship Group
in the Turkey Grand National Assembly.
The members of Pakistan’s
Parliamentary Delegation stressed the need for enhance interaction of
Parliamentarians between the two countries to benefit from each other
experiences.
