WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (APP): Pakistan has rejected claims made in an American newspaper report about Mullah Omar hiding in Karachi with the Pakistani Embassy here ruling out presence of the Afghan Taliban leader in the country.A Pakistani embassy spokesman told The Washington Times that the United States has not provided Pakistan with any credible intelligence regarding Mullah Omar’s whereabouts. The newspaper ran a story Friday, quoting unnamed U.S. intelligence officials who alleged Mullah Omar had escaped to Karachi.

“We have no evidence of his presence in Pakistan,” stressed Nadeem Kiani, Press attache at the embassy, while rebutting allegations of any Pakistani intelligence help for the militant.

“If anybody in the U.S. government knows of any Quetta shura or Karachi shura, why don’t they share that intelligence with Pakistan so we can take care of the issue ourselves? We have not been made aware of any presence of Mullah Omar in the region,” Kiani added.    

The spokesman drew attention to the fact that Pakistan has rendered great sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorists and pointed out that the ISI and Pakistani military have “suffered a lot of losses fighting the terrorists.”

“Our forces are fighting the Taliban in Waziristan and other areas,” he stated. “The terrorists are now killing and targeting innocent people in Pakistani cities. ISI is a very professional intelligence agency and these allegations are baseless.”

He also referred to the close cooperation between the U.S.  and Pakistan, saying they have “24-hour intelligence sharing.”
