Tolerance imperative for global peace, development; says Mirza
ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly, has said that justice and tolerance are the key values of Islam and it abhors intolerance and aggression against others.
She termed
the non-compliance of the Islamic principles, main factor behind the
present unrest in the world. She said this in her message on
International Day for Tolerance being observed on Monday throughout the
globe. The Speaker
stressed the need for adopting positive attitude inspired by
recognition of and respect for the rights and freedom of others. She said that
this day serves us an opportunity to renew the commitment to advance
human welfare, fundamental freedom and progress as well as to encourage
tolerance, respect, dialogue and cooperation amongst different
cultures, civilizations and religious communities. Dr. Fehmida
Mirza called for creating tolerant attitude and trust between diverse
communities for peaceful coexistence. She said that in order to achieve
a tolerant society, observance of human rights and equality of
treatment should be ensured almost all groups and individuals in the
society. She said that
equal economic and social opportunities should be made available to
each person without discrimination and exclusion. She said that if
marginality prevails, that could lead to frustration, hostility and
extremism. She said that without tolerance there can be no peace and
without peace there can be no development or democracy. Fehmida Mirza
called upon all the leaders to draw pledge for supporting and promoting
tolerance for peace and harmony in the world. She also
stressed the need of interfaith dialogue for creating a shared
perception of things and events in order to resolve tension and create
tolerance amongst religious communities. She said that
dialogue for streamlining the issues and problems encourages tolerance,
respect and cooperation. She also underlined the need for enhancing the
literacy as intolerance is often rooted in ignorance and fear.
