Disbursement of Rs 3.82 bln among IDPs in December under BISP : Farzana Raja
ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja said on Monday that disbursement of amount Rs 3.82 Billion would start among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Swat and Malakand would start from the first week of December. Farzana Raja said an agreement had been signed with United Bank Limited (UBL) to facilitate over 318,000 families of Swat and Malakand through visa cards.
“The process for issuance of visa
cards to the IDPs of Swat and Malakand will be initiated in the first
week of December”, she said.
Farzana Raja said five service
centers had been established at Timergara, Mingora, Shangla, Batakhel
and Peshawar for distribution of visa cards and giving guidelines for
proper use of these cards.
In addition , 100 franchises would
also be established in the Malakand division for payment through the
visa cards. An initial payment of Rs 6,000 will be made from the
franchise and then each of the families will get payment of Rs 1,000
through these cards on monthly basis.
She said ‘National Poverty Survey’
under BISP would start by the end of December to ascertain poverty
percentage in the country and enhance living standard of poor
alleviating poverty.
The pilot project of the poverty
survey has already been completed in 15 districts of all four provinces
including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Northern Areas.
The districts where survey has
been complete include Musakhel,Kila Saifullah and Kech/Turbat of
Balochistan, Lakky Marwat, Karak and Batgram of NWFP, Layyah, Mianwali,
Multan, and Pakpatan of Punjab, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar of
Sindh, Poonch of AJK, Ghanchae and Diamir districts of Northern Areas.
The method of “Poverty Scorecard”
approved by World Bank was used to identify poor families while some US
$ 60 million were financed by the World Bank for the test phase.
Under BISP emergency relief
package, certain measures have been taken to benefit FATA/Swat IDPs,
Balochistan earthquake affectees and victims of bomb blasts.
A total of Rs. 28 million have
been paid to 3965 families from FATA and Bajaur. However, Rs. 26
million were distributed among 3729 earthquake affected families in
Balochistan.
Data of the bomb blast victims
have been obtained and benefits will be paid to the next of kin in case
of a deceased person and to the victim in case of injury.
So far, 266 victim families have
been registered and approximately Rs. 540,000 have been paid. The
registration of the remaining families is in process and will be
completed by end of this month.
