GILGIT, Nov 13 (APP): Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira said Friday that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has shown good performance in the elections in the area and expected the process of government formation to be completed within seven days.Talking to APP here, he said that returned candidates of the PPP have great potential to serve the masses and the person to be appointed Chief Minister would come up to the expectations of the people.PPP has secured 11 seats in the assembly elections, which the Governor said was a manifestation of the trust of the people  the in the party.

“The people of Gilgit-Baltistan have reposed confidence in the PPP and it would make every effort to come up to their expectations and resolve their problems”, the Governor said.

The results of the elections have proved that the PPP is one of the major parties of the country having its roots in every part of Pakistan, he said.

He said participation of central leadership of various political parties in the electioneering was a very good sign and all major political parties had fielded their candidates in the elections.

To a question, he said that the PPP has been raising its voice for the rights of the people since 1972 and thanked the people of the area for  reposing confidence in the party leadership.

Kaira said that PPP had fielded its candidates on all 23 seats where elections were held. It may be mentioned here that election on the 24th seat was postponed due to death of a candidate.

Rejecting allegations of rigging, he said that the elections were held in a free, fair, and transparent manner under independent Election Commission and independent judiciary.

He congratulated the Election Commission and the administration for making sound arrangements for free elections.

Replying to a question,he said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam(F) has already announced to make adjustments with the PPP,while other like minded candidates are also expected to support the PPP in the process of government formation.

Answering a question, he said that the PPP committee which finalised tickets for party candidates in Gilgit-Baltistan elections was headed by party Secretary General Jehangir Badar, who is a very mature and seasoned politician.

“The party tickets were given on merit and after thorough deliberations and the wise decisions taken in this regard have paid dividends”,said Governor Kaira.

He said that the over all election process was completed peacefully without any untoward incident.

However, he said, a couple of  unfortunate incidents occurred in Chilas and Gilgit, but no PPP candidate or his supporters were involved in these clashes. The supporters of other parties clashed in Chilas and Gilgit, and the government was trying to sort out the matters there, he added.
