ISLAMABAD, Nov 5 (APP): Owing to the effective strategy of Pakistan Army, the resistance in Waziristan Agency has dwindled significantly after sensing defeat the majority of militants have either fled from the areas or goes in hiding, Director General Inter Services Public Relations Major General Athar Abbas said Thursday. In an Interview with PTV he said the abilities of terrorists to strike as a cohesive force have been receded significantly. A number of terrorists have already been killed.
Supply line of the terrorist have been cut off.It is not possible for
them to flee through normal routes however rugged areas still available
to them to flee adjacent areas,he said.
Militants leadership still in hiding as due to blockade of normal routes, confirms intelligence reports.
Intelligence reports shows that the leadership of militants were hiding
in Waziristan areas.The leadership of terrorists are leading militants
from the front side.
While a total of 42 officers and Jawans have embraced Shahadat and 123 sustained injured during the ongoing operation in Waziristan Agency.
The operation is being conducted to ensure a safer and prosperous
Pakistan. Pakistan Army has offered more than 5000 casualties in war
against terrorist which is more than combined killings of NATO forces
in Afghanistan, he said.
Posts vacated by NATO forces adjacent to operation areas could provide
sanctuaries to fleeing militants.Concerns on the situation have already
been conveyed to NATO.
Rejecting failure option he said expression satisfaction on Pakistani nation’s support.
Regarding terrorist concentration in Southern Punjab he added that the
situation is totally different from Waziristan as government’s
institutions are fully working in Southern Punjab whereas militants had
ousted state departments including FC from Waziristan and were
collecting taxes.
Responding to a question he said the ammunition recovered from
Waziristan Agency is included anti aircraft guns, mines,anti tank
weapons.The weapons have been supplied by various foreign countries
including India.
