Dictator who forced two-time PMs to live in exile has received divine justice: Pervaiz Ashraf
ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (APP): Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said Tuesday that it was divine justice that the former dictator who forced two-time prime ministers Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif to live in exile has himself been forced to live away from the country.
Taking part in the debate in the National Assembly on November 3, 2007
emergency imposed by the then president Pervez Musharraf, he said that
time has proved that will of the people is supreme and the dictators
cannot suppress it for long.
He said that the nation paid heavy price for the dictatorships in the
past and hoped that in future democracy would flourish and no body
would dare to derail the system.
The masses rendered great sacrifices for restoration of democracy and
the PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and countless workers of the
Pakistan Peoples Party and other parties sacrificed for the dawn of
democracy.
PML-Q leader Amir Muqam stated that the PML-Q was against National
Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and none of its leaders benefitted from
it. He said that PML-Q would not become part of any move to destabilize
the democratic government. He said that the PML-Q believes that the war
on terror was our own war and not foreigners.
MNA from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Zafar Beg Bhittani
said that the dictator who broke the constitution and weakened the
institutions should be held to account.
Sardar Yousuf Talpur said the blackest day of our history was the day
when Musharraf surrendered to demands of the United States on one
telephone call.
PPP legislator Akhundzada Chatan said that the people of the country
were facing serious problems and the Parliament should fulfill its
responsibilities and take steps for resolution of these problems.
Akram Masih Gill said that we should also condemn the marshal law
imposed by Ziaul Haq. He said that during Zia era, women and minorities
were pushed to the wall while Pervez Musharraf took steps to bring them
in the mainstream.
Marvi Memon said all members support democracy, but she was of the
opinion they had right to highlight good work done during the Musharraf
era.
Sher Muhammad Baloch said that the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had strongly rejected the emergency imposed on Nov 3, 2007.
Yasmeen Rehman said that successive marshal laws damaged the vision of
democratic Pakistan. She said that previous Parliament was a rubber
stamp but the present one was sovereign and all important issues are
brought here.
She further said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had realized in 2004 that
if the extremists were thwarted then they would threaten to come to
Islamabad and her prediction had proved correct.
