BEIJING, Sept 10 (APP)‑ Small
developing countries including Pakistan can benefit by participating in the
international innovation Forum to be held in Shanghai next month. This was
stated by Mr. Mei Yonghong, Director of Department of Policy, Regulations and
Reform of the Ministry of Science and Technology while responding to a question
at a press conference here Wednesday.
Briefing the foreign and
domestic media persons alongwith Ms. Xu Meihua, Secretary‑General of the Science
and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and Mr. Hu Yu, Director of
Theory Department of Science and Technology Mei said that the second edition of
the Pujiang Innovation Forum 2009 will be held on the 24th ‑25th
of October in Shanghai.
This times speakers included
Minister of Science and Technology Mr. Wan Gang and Mayor of Shanghai Han Zheng,
besides, some of the key participating speakers are Mr. Wu Jinglian, Researcher
of Development Research Center of the State Council, Renowned Economist, Mr.
Zhang Qingwei, Board Chairman of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd,
Mr. Liu Chuanzhi, Chairman of Lenovo Group and President of Legend Holdings, Mr.
Rao Zihe, President of Nankai University and Mr. AnnaLee Saxenian, Dean and
Professor in the School of Information and Professor in the Department of City
and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley.
“The upcoming event is mainly
focused on “Economic Globalization & Innovation” and will provide an excellent
platform for the industry players to share their views with the world class
management expertise through example, analysis and discussions:, Mei observed.
Key topics will be discussed
such as Financial Crisis and New Pattern of Global Competition, Innovation of
Small and Medium‑sized Enterprises under the Economic Fluctuation, Globalization
of Research and Development and its Influence, Typical Experience of the
Technological Breakthrough in Industries of Newly‑rising Industrialized
Countries as well as Measures to Boost Development through Innovation.
This forum gathered about 50
speakers worldwide who are scholars, entrepreneurs and government officials.
So far, officials from Ministry
of Science & Technology, Shanghai Municipal Government and some developing
provinces of China have confirmed their participation, he said.
The forum also selected some
interesting topics as its sessions, Mei said.
He pointed out that Small and
medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) are major forces in China’s economic and social
development and technological innovation and it decides the future of China’s
national economy. SMEs contribute to 75% of the technological innovation,
develop 80% of the new products, and invent 65% of the patents.
SMEs, Mei said can generate
extremely great innovation force and activeness unmatched by big enterprises if
they can seize the market opportunities. However, compared with big companies,
SMEs are usually in the dry tree during the competition.
However, he pointed out that it
is Chinese decision‑makers “task to think over how to inspire SMEs to maintain
innovative vitality, to create environment beneficial for their healthy growth
and thus driving China”s economy to grow continually and to update the
adjustment of industry structure.
