Turkmenistan offers more power export to Pakistan |

ISLAMABAD, Jun 9 (APP):
Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Sapar Berdiniyazov called on Minister
for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf here on Tuesday and offered to export
more power to Pakistan. He made this offer during
meeting with the Minister and discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral
trade and for enhancing the economic cooperation in various fields.
The Ambassador said that
Turkmenistan has great thermal power generation and potential with surplus
power. He also discussed the various aspects of proposed conference of Inter
Government Economic Commission to be held shortly in Turkmenistan.
The Minister said that Pakistan
is ready to import power from Turkmenistan through Iran. He also discussed the
possibilities for import of power from Turkmenistan through other routes via
Afghanistan.
He assured the Ambassador of
his full cooperation for the conference and said that Ministry of Water and
Power will nominate a senior level delegation for participation in the
conference.
The minister briefed him on the
current energy situation and stated that all the resources are being utilized to
overcome the current energy crisis.
He said that long, medium and
short term measures have been planned to meet the current and future power
requirements. He said that Pakistan wants to create regional electricity market
to enhance regional cooperation.
