ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP):The
government has already achieved a great political victory against Taliban by
politically disarming them, as people of Pakistan greatly acknowledge
government’s failed reconciliatory bid, Director General Inter Services Public
Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas said Friday.
In an Interview with Dawn News,
he said, each Pakistani knows very well that the government has allowed maximum
time to militants to mend ways and let normalcy return. People have seen the
real face of Taliban and started realising that their agenda was not Nizam e Adl
or Islam. They have an objective to go beyond Buner, Dir and adjacent areas, he
added.
Expressing military’s firm
resolve to physically disarm and expel Taliban from the picturesque Swat valley
and adjacent areas he said efforts were underway to capture top leadership of
Taliban.
He said credible intelligence
reports show that poor boys are being trained for suicide bombings by Taliban.
The would be bomber include the siblings of the victims of drone attacks.
Some reports suggest that
families are being coerced by Taliban to allow their boys to fight with Taliban
militants.Military and government alone might not be able to eliminate
Taliban. The cooperation of masses is must to achieve complete success,he added.
Taliban are using coercion as
their weapon ‑ terrorising people.Using innocent people as human shield. They
are getting weapons, fundings from the border areas of Afghanistan. It was
impossible to seal border areas touching with Afghanistan.
Some 4,000 to 5,000 militants
are operating in Swat including foreigners,Al Qaeda men from South Waziristan
Agency. However majority of Taliban operating in the valley are local. They know
the area very well. The terrain is ideal for insurgency. However security forces
would eliminate and expel them this time as people are solidly behind the
government and military,he concluded.
