A group of ex-trainees was holding a regular protest demonstration in front of OGDCL office here from February 16 to get regular induction in the company.

The sources said that the trainees were invited for a 11-month comprehensive professional training course in 2007 to make them experienced in oil and gas sector.

They said that it is mandatory for every fresh engineer to complete the training course for getting job in the field, adding that protesting engineers were also informed prior to the course that it was purely a training session and OGDCL was not bound to give them job on its completion.

However, OGDCL administration has advised them to appear in tests and interviews for the jobs advertised by the company, they said adding OGDCL will consider their applications.

The sources said the company had imparted about one-year training to 270 young engineers in Petroleum Research and Training Institute (PRTI) along with stipend of Rs. 12000 per month.

The trainees were relieved in 2008 after completion of their training period in various fields including Sedimentologist, Core Analyst, Micro Paleontologist, Geochemist, Chemist, Geophsysicit, Well Site Geologist, Mud Engineer, HSEQ Engineer, Production Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Corrosion engineers, Instrumentation Engineers, Production DATA Management System Officers and Drilling Engineers, they added.

Talking to APP outside the OGDCL office, the protesting engineers said during the training they were assured to be inducted in the company.

They were of the view that previously, OGDCL had regularised the services of trainees, as it was short of the qualified engineers.

They demanded of the government to intervene and settle the issue in line with reinstatement of 1996’s sacked employees.
