Yasir Hameed denies allegations in the British tabloid paper -

LONDON, Sept 5 (APP)- Test batsman Yasir Hameed Sunday distanced himself from the allegations attributed to him by a British tabloid daily that there were cheats in the Pakistan team who were fixing ‘almost every match.’The 32-year-old player met Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan, CB Chairman Ejaz Butt and other officials at the High Commission this afternoon to clarify the remarks credited to him by ‘News of the World’ in a latest twist to alleged betting scam.

MQM (USA) sends relief materials worth over $675,000 for flood victims -

NEW YORK, Sept 5 (APP): Donations and relief materials worth over $675,000, including 24 dialysis machines, for Pakistan’s flood victims have been sent by MQM (USA) through an American charity, which has an agreement with the United Nations refugeee High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).Two officials of the Sun Charity, USA including Dr Kahlid Maqbool Siddiqui and Ibad ur Rehman made the announcement at a press conference on Friday at which they also announced that their organization had reached an understanding with UNHCR to be the vehicle to distribute goods in Pakistan.

APL demands a probe by a Supreme Court Judge on latest match fixing affair -

LONDON, Sept 5 (APP)-The UK-based Association of Pakistani Lawyers (APL) has called for an official inquiry under a Supreme Court judge into the extent of betting and match fixing claims afflicting Pakistan cricket once the investigations in the UK into this issue are completed.The Government must contemplate an official enquiry post UKs criminal investigations under a Supreme Court judge to probe and oversee the whole affair. The enquiry tribunal must pin point failures to adhere corruption calls, fixing responsibility on officials, adjudicating against players who are allegedly involved, and put forward suggestions to reform policy an law and directives to eradicate corruption from this great game of cricket,” APL chair Barrister Amjad Malik said in a statement.

The world must not abandon Pakistan to the religious extremists: Rev Michael Nazir-Ali -

LONDON, Sept 5 (APP)- A leading British clergyman has said the world needs a stable, strong and moderate Pakistan and it was vital for the West to co-operate with the South Asian country to counter extremist ideology.Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali of Pakistani heritage in his article for “The Observer” has noted that independent surveys show that over 90% of Pakistanis believe that religious extremism is the greatest single threat to the country.

Chinese lady philanthropist’s RMB 1.3 mln assistance for flood affectees -

BEIJING, Sept 5 (APP): Madam Ding Shumiao, Chairperson Broad Union Investment Management Group Co. Ltd at a meeting with Ambassador Masood Khan at the Pakistan Embassy donated RMB 1.3 million (approximately US$200,000) for the flood-hit people in Pakistan.She expressed her heartfelt condolences at the natural calamity which hit Pakistan and said that â€œwe share the pain and agony of our Pakistani friends. Pakistan is a dear friend and this is a humble contribution to alleviate the sufferings of its people.The Ambassador thanked the Chairperson and appreciated hergenerous gesture. He said the Chinese government and its people have always stood by Pakistan in its difficult times.

UK lawyers’ body wants SC Judge to probe match fixing issue

ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (APP): Association of Pakistani Lawyers (APL), a team of Pakistani origin lawyers, solicitors, barristers and Judges in UK, on Sunday suggested that the government must contemplate an official enquiry into match fixing issue under a Supreme Court Judge.

Samir appeals for providing financial assistance

LAHORE, Sep 4 (APP)- Pakistan’s promising junior player, Samir Iftikhar has appealed to the government to provide him financial assistance enabling him to continue his participation in ITF Junior World ranking circuit.Samir who recently won ITF world ranking singles and doubles titles to gain prominence at international level has chalked out a plan to continue his participation in the main draws of ITF Junior World ranking tournaments being held in Prague, Iran, China, UAE and Far East, starting later this month ending December.“It is not possible for me to shoulder the burden of expense involved in the participation of these tournaments and I appeal to the government and tennis authorities to support me by providing financial assistance so that I could continue my participation”, he told APP before his departure for England on Saturday.

PM Gilani congratulates Sri Lanka team

LAHORE, Jan 24 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has appreciated the gesture of Sri Lankan Government for sending its cricket team to paly three one‑day match series in Pakistan. “ I am thankful to the Sri Lankan Government for its decision to send its cricket team to help Pakistan resume its international cricket “, he said here at Gadaffi stadium while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the third and last one day international which Sri Lanka won by 234 runs.

Congratulating Sri Lankan Team for winning the series, the Prime Minister appreciated their standard of game and said “you provided great entertainment to the people.”

The Prime Minister said that the people and government of Pakistan attach great importance to relations with Sri Lanka and have great regard for people and government of the friendly country.

He said presence of large number of spectators is reflective of their love for the cricketers from the friendly country as well as of the fact that they enjoyed the game fully.

The Prime Minister praised the role of Lankan team for playing cricket matches at Karachi and Lahore.

“ I pay tribute to the administrations of both the cities of Karachi and Lahore for providing security to the participating teams and the people who watched the matches “,he said adding “ I also congratulate the people of Lahore for their participation in large number in watching the match.

The Prime Minister while lifting the morale of Pak team players said” they should not feel disappointed with the defeat and try to do better in future “.
