UN agency ramps up for Gaza reconstruction push -
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 20 (APP):  A week after a major conference in Cairo on the reconstruction of war-ravaged Gaza, the key UN agency on the ground there has begun scaling up its response to meet critical needs of people in the Strip.

Volunteerism to promote peace, development: Zardari PDF Print E-mail

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari said volunteerism has the power to promote peace, harmony and development not only in Pakistan but around the world. In a message on the International Volunteers Day falling on Friday, December 5, he said let us recognize the power of volunteerism which can augment peace and harmony in the world.

“I am pleased to know that International Volunteers Day is also being observed in Pakistan,” he said adding volunteerism based on common concern for the welfare of the whole community is a noble endeavour and all those engaged in it deserve to be commended for their selflessness.

Zardari said although it has not been given due attention in the past, many organizations and individuals have kept the Espirit of volunteerism alive and continued to pursue this noble cause.

The present government wishes to address this neglect of the past and intends to engage every segment of the society regardless of caste and creed, support communities and inculcate a spirit of self help, he added.

The President said, “I would also like to pay tribute to the unsung millions of volunteers all over the world who, volunteer themselves to help build a peaceful and better world.”
