Obama calls Zardari, assures support for democracy |

WASHINGTON,
Nov 8 (APP): U.S.President‑elect Barack Obama called President Asif Ali Zardari
on Friday and assured of his full support for
democracy in the country. Obama, who
this week achieved a historic victory in the U.S. election to become the first
African American president, expressed the hope that the two
countries would continue to work together to further expand their bilateral
relationship.
President
Zardari congratulated the new U.S. leader on his success in the November 4
election and said Pakistan and the United States are allies and will maintain
their close relationship.
Zardari
expressed the hope that Pakistan‑US relations would be long‑term and
broad‑based.
