President’s visit to strengthen strategic partnership with China: Qureshi |

BEIJING,
Oct 13 (APP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday said main
objectives of visit of President Asif Zardari to China were further
strengthening of strategic partnership, deepening of economic relationship and
reinforcing of cultural and social ties between the two countries. The Foreign
Minister stated this during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi
here.
Both sides
expressed satisfaction over the continued growth in bilateral ties. The Chinese
Foreign Minister expressed China’s support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, social
stability and economic progress.
The Chinese
Foreign Minister appreciated President Asif Zardari’s desire to visit China, on
his first official visit abroad.
Qureshi
said that the forthcoming visit of Pakistani President to China would further
solidify their strategic partnership.
The
ministers described Pakistan-China friendship as time-tested and all weather.
Qureshi
said the Pakistani leadership is desirous of a long-term relationship between
Pakistan People’s Party and the Communist Party of China.
Foreign
Minister Qureshi elucidated the concept of ‘Friends of Pakistan’ group, to his
Chinese counterpart.
Foreign
Minister Yang assured China’s full support and cooperation to Pakistan at this
forum.
He also
confirmed China’s participation in the first meeting of the ‘Friends of
Pakistan’ group, being held in Abu Dhabi shortly.
Briefing
his Chinese counterpart on Pakistan’s special focus on economic diplomacy,
Foreign Minister Qureshi acknowledged the deep political and strategic
cooperation between the two countries but also emphasized the need to enhance
bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Foreign
Minister Yang said that China will continue to support Pakistan in its efforts
for economic development and more Chinese corporations and business entities
will be encouraged to invest in Pakistan.
He said
that China wishes to enhance its cooperation in all mutually beneficial fields.
Underscoring the importance of their special relations, Foreign Minister Yang
reaffirmed China’s determination to take these relations to greater heights.
The Chinese
Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s important role in
promoting peace, security and regional stability and its contribution in the
fight against terrorism and extremism.
Foreign
Minister Qureshi thanked the Chinese government for continued assistance and
support to Pakistan.
In recent
years, Chinese investments in Pakistan have shown an upward trend. Several
projects of national significance are being executed with Chinese assistance.
