PESHAWAR, Oct 9 (APP): At least 10 persons including three school children and 3
prisoners were killed and seven others injured when a police van carrying
prisoners was targeted with help of apparent remote-control bomb blast at
Chakiyatan Kwago Obbo area in Dir Upper district on Thursday afternoon, police
said. Police official Nadir Khan told APP from Dir Upper that the ill-fated bus packed
with prisoners and policemen was coming back to Central Jail Timergara after
producing the inmates in courts for trial.
The bus when reached at Khogo Obbo on Dir-Kohistan Road, it was attacked with
roadside bomb that left at least 10 persons dead and seven others injured.
IGP NWFP Malik Naveed Khan told reporters that a school bus was closely
following the police van also came under attack. Resultantly, he said three
students were perished while another sustained injuries. The school bus was
badly damaged in the attack.
The Police Chief said that policemen driver Noor Nawab and constable Khawadad
Khan, three prisoners Bacha Rehman son of Zafar Khan, Tazamin son of Gul Mula
and Tajeed Khan residents of Dir and 3 children were among the dead.
The injured police cops identified as ASI Nasrullah Khan, constables Ghulam
Muhammad, Gul Zada, Hassan Rahim and Naseer. The IGP said that investigation has
been started and the culprits behind the brutal cowardice act would soon be
brought to book.
The aggrieved-stricken families of victims rushed to District Headquarters
Hospital Dir amid chest beating and sobbing and inquired about the health of
their beloved ones.
Eyewitnesses and police sources said that the windowpanes of vans were smashed
due to high intensity of the explosion while the victims cried for help due to
severe injuries. The police van was completely destroyed in the attack. The bang
of explosion was heard in two kilometer radius that terrorized local people.
The flesh of human bodies laid scattered on the road while black smoke engulfed
the area. The injured have been shifted to Timergara hospital while critically
injured are being shifted to Peshawar. The doctors have imposed emergency in Dir
hospitals while doctors on leave have been called in.
NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the dastardly act of bomb
attack on a bus of prisoners and has expressed his deep shock and sorrow over
the loss of precious lives.
In a condolence message, the Governor has described the incident as highly
inhuman and cowardcice and a worst act of terrorism.
The elements involved in the incident, he added, do not have any concern with
the humanity. They would no more remain at large and would be brought to court
of law shortly, he said.
While expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved
families, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and courage for
their families to bear the irreparable loss with patience. He has also prayed
for early recovery of the injured.
The Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan, too, has strongly condemned the attack and
expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives.
He directed the law enforcement agencies, district administration and hospital
management to immediately provide best medical facilities to people. He also
announced compensation from provincial government to victims.
The Chief Minister said that criminals behind the deadly attack would soon be
brought to justice.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace. He also
prayed for early recovery of the injured.
