Power plant to generate electricity from Ethanol |

LAHORE, Aug
4 (APP): Coming up with new idea of generating electricity from Ethanol in
Pakistan, the Suger Cane Grower’s Association (SCGA) is setting up a 4 megawatt
power plant at Mamoo Kanjan, district Faisalabad.
Talking to
APP here Monday, Convener Suger Cane Grower’s Association, Javed Malik said that
the title of the project is Sugar Cane Growers Co-op (Ethanol Plant) will be
completed at a cost of Rs 700 million. He said that feasibility study of the
project has been completed and no objection certificate (NOC) has also been
obtained to launch this project. He said 60,000 liters ethanol extracted from
sugarcane will be used for generating 4 megawatt electricity on daily basis.
He said
that about 10,000 to 15,000 local sugarcane growers will be the members of power
project who will provide their produce to the plant. The management of the
plant in response to will provide electricity to nearby villages and subsidy on
fertilizers to the growers. With the setting up of this plant, he said the
employment opportunities to the 300 to 500 persons would be available.
The key
success factors of the multi-purpose power plant will also be to enable growers
to focus on cane development, producing livestock feed and fertilizer.
