Snow creates messy conditions on New York area roads -
NEW YORK, Feb  9 (APP): Another storm bringing snow whipped by strong winds is moving through the New York area Tuesday, creating treacherous driving conditions and disrupting flights. Temperatures throughout the northeast region were below zero mark.Road crews were out all night pre-treating the roads in anticipation for  the second round of snow in two weeks.


Pakistan urges 'more effective' implementation of drug control conventions -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 9 (APP): Pakistan has called for stepped up efforts to implement the three conventions on drug control that are aimed at preventing the use of drugs for non-medical purposes. "What is needed is more effective implementation by member states and  international drug control agencies," Nawab Mohammad Yousaf Talpur, a Pakistani National Assembly member,  told a parliamentary hearing on 'The World Drug Problem', pointing out that Pakistan was a member of the UN conferences that adopted the three conventions.



Pakistani delegation arrives for IPU-UN hearing on world drug problem -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 8 (APP): A two-member Pakistan parliamentary  delegation has arrived in New York to participate in a hearing at United Nations Headquarters organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the U.N. on the world drug problem.The delegation is composed of National Assembly members -- Nawab Yousuf Talpur (leader) and Ms. Asiya Nasir.


U.N. Security Council slams North Korea's missile launch -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 7 (APP): The U.N. Security Council Sunday strongly condemned North Korea's missile launch and vowed to "expeditiously" adopt a new resolution with "significant" new sanctions against Pyongyang. In a statement issued statement after an emergency meeting on Sunday, the 15-member Council underscored that launches using ballistic missile technology, "even if characterized as a satellite launch or space launch vehicle" contribute to North Korea's development of systems to deliver nuclear weapons.



Highly radioactive leak found at NY nuclear plant -
NEW YORK, Feb 7 (APP): New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for an investigation after an apparent overflow at a nuclear power plant spilled highly radioactive water into an underground monitoring well, but nuclear regulators said the public was not at risk. Officials at the Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, New York,  reported that water contaminated by tritium leaked into the groundwater under the facility.

Umar Akmal believes PSL help to perform in Int'l cricket
ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (APP): Lahore Qalandars star batsman Umar Akmal believes that Pakistan Super League will help him perform well in the Twenty20 format. "PSL is a good step and we hope it will help us in international cricket," said Umar. Umar scored a blistering 93-run knock off just 40 balls against Quetta Gladiators.

 
WAPDA players shine in South Asian Games, clinch 3 gold, 5 silver medals
ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (APP): The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) players, who are representing Pakistan, continue to bring laurels for their country in the 12th South Asian Games, being played in India. WAPDA players so far have won 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals for Pakistan in different games. According to the details, WAPDA player Nasir Iqbal won gold medal in squash (men's single) while Muhammad Inam and Zaman Anwar clinched gold medals in wrestling.

 
Hira, Saif Ullah win Peshawar District Badminton Women, Men singles titles
PESHAWAR, Feb 9 (APP): Hira Shaheen and Saifullah Tuesday clinched Women and Men Singles titles of the Peshawar District Badminton Championship organized by District Sports Officer here at Tariq Wood Hall, Qayyum Sports Complex. President KP Billiard and Snooker Association Zulfiqar Ali Butt was the chief guests on this occasion.

 
Muay Thai Association KP players showcase stunning skills
PESHAWAR, Feb 9 (APP): The players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa showcased their skills in the Muay Thai, a mixed Martial Arts of Pakistan with martial art sports such as boxing and wrestling styles here at Lala Rafique Sports Arena on Tuesday. The Muay Thai Association KP under the aegis of Directorate of Sports KP and Pakistan Muay Thai Federation organized Individual and Team Katas along with group fight only to give a stunning show to the large number of spectators present on this occasion.

 
Pakistan Cycling team wins 1 silver, 3 bronze in SA Games in India
PESHAWAR, Feb 9 (APP): Pakistan Cycling team comprising of five male and six female cyclists clinched one silver and 3 bronze medals by struggling at second in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games being played at Ghuhati, India. Talking to APP from Ghuhati India on phone, Secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah confirmed that Pakistan was struggling at second behind India in the Cycling event wherein the female player from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Sabiha Bibi won a bronze medal in the Individual Time trials of 30km.

Punjab’s 20th CM to seek trust vote on Friday PDF Print E-mail

LAHORE,April 17, (APP): Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa, the youngest Chief Minister of the largest province of the country, will take vote of confidence from Punjab Assembly under article 130(3) of the constitution tomorrow (Friday). Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa son of ex-Governor and provincial President of PML-N Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa  was born in D.G. Khan on October 22, 1973.

He received primary education from Aitchison College Lahore and secondary education from Government College Lahore and graduated from Punjab University, Lahore.

Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa is the 20th chief executive of the province while Iftikhar Hussain Khan was the first Punjab Chief Minister who held this slot from August 15, 1947 to January 25, 1949.

Mian Mumtaz Daultana, a landlord and veteran politician remained chief minister of the Punjab from  April 15, 1951 to April 3, 1953.

Feroz Khan Noon was the third Chief Minister and held the coveted office from April 3, 1953 to May 21, 1955 while Abdul Hamid Khan Dasti held it from May 21, 1955 to October 14, 1955.

The post was abolished on october 14, 1955 to  June 30, 1970 as Part of West Pakistan province .

After revival of the office of chief Minister following elections in 1971 Malik Meraj Khalid was elected as Chief Executive of the province.He remained CM from  May 2, 1972 to November 12, 1973.

Ghulam Mustafa Khar held the office for about five months from November 12, 1973 March 15, 1974 while Hanif Ramay remained as CM for 16 months from March 15, 1974 to July 15, 1975.

Sadiq Hussain Qureshi was  8th  chief executive of the province from July 15, 1975 to July 5, 1977 when Martial law was imposed in the country by the then Chief of Army Staff General Ziaul Haq.

The office of chief minister of the province was revived following partyless elections in 1985 and Nawaz Sharif was elected as CM who held the post from April 9, 1985 to August 13, 1990.

Ghulam Haider Wyne was 10th  CM of the province and remained in office from November 8, 1990 to April 25, 1993.

Mian Manzoor Watto is the only politician having honour of holding office of chief executive of the province thrice from April 25, 1993 July 19, 1993, 2nd time from October 20, 1993 to September 13, 1995 and third time from November 3, 1996 to November 16, 1996.

Manzoor Elahi was appointed as caretaker chief minister and remained in office from  July 19, 1993 to October 20, 1993.

Sardar Arif Nakai held the coveted office from September 13, 1995 to November 3, 1996 while Mian Muhammad Afzal Hayat remained as  caretaker Chief Minister from November 16, 1996 to February 20, 1997.

Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif who held  the office of CM for about two and a half years from  February 20, 1997 October 12, 1999, will assume charge as provincial Chief executive after he reaches assembly through bye-elections to be held on June 18.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi remained Chief Minister for five years from  November 29, 2002 to November 18, 2007 while Shiekh Ejaz Nisar took over as caretaker Chief Minister on November 19, 2007 and held the slot till Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa assumed chagre as Chief Minister.
