UN dims lights to focus attention on climate change -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 29 (APP): The United Nations went dark later Saturday evening as the Organization shuts off the lights at its iconic Headquarters complex in New York and other facilities around the world in observance of ‘Earth Hour,’ an annual global event raising awareness about the need to take action on climate change and promoting sustainable energy consumption.


Pakistan renew its commitment to UN peacekeeping at first-ever defence chiefs conference -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP): Pakistan has renewed its commitment to the “noble cause” of United Nations peacekeeping, the world body’s flagship activity that helps countries torn by conflict to create the conditions for lasting peace.


At UN, Pakistan urges action to end violence against religious, ethnic minorities in Mideast -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP):  Pakistan Friday called for U.N. Security Council action to end the religiously and ethnically-motivated violence sweeping the Middle East by promoting a global consensus for resolving the challenges confronting Iraq, Syria, Yemen and “most importantly” Palestine.

OIC Secretary General meets foreign minister; commends Pakistan’s role at OIC PDF Print E-mail

ISLAMABAD, Apr 1 (APP): Professor Dr. Ekmeledin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General OIC called on Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi here on Tuesday.The Secretary General, who is in Islamabad to attend the 13th COMSTECH General Assembly Meeting, felicitated the Foreign Minister on assumption of Office.

He added that Pakistan, as a founding and active member of the OIC, had played a leading role in all matters of interest to the Muslim World.

The Secretary General briefed the Foreign Minister on the recently held successful 11th OIC Summit in Dakar.

He particularly referred to the new OIC Charter adopted at the Summit and emphasized that its adoption and simultaneous entry into force had opened new horizons for the Organization.

The Foreign Minister congratulated the Secretary General on his re-election for the second term.

He further felicitated Professor Dr. Ihsanoglu on adoption of the new OIC Charter and added that Pakistan will always be willing to fully support the causes and issues of the Ummah.

The Foreign Minister thanked the Secretary General for his vocal and demonstrated support to the Kashmir cause, particularly during the 11th OIC Summit in Dakar last month which had passed a resolution and a declaration on Jammu & Kashmir.

The Foreign Minister briefed the Secretary General on the strong condemnation in Pakistan with regard to the recent acts of incitement and discrimination against Islam in the Western media, including the recent release of the anti-Islamic film ‘Fitna’ on the internet.

He emphasized that the Government and the people of Pakistan were highly sensitive towards such instigatory acts in the name of freedom of expression.

The Secretary General highlighted the importance of a coordinated strategy on the part of the Ummah and under the umbrella of the OIC towards combating the ongoing campaign of defamation of Islam in the West.

The Foreign Minister, who is also the current Chairman of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (ICFM), assured the Secretary General of Pakistan’s unstinted support towards evolving and implementing such a coordinated strategy.

Earlier, the Secretary General called on the Foreign Secretary to discuss wide ranging issues pertaining to Pakistan’s engagement at the OIC.
