Nearly 300,000 children head back to school in conflict-torn Syria, Gaza: UN agency -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 16 (APP): As the school year kicks off around the world, nearly 300,000 children Monday returned to U.N.-run classrooms in Gaza and Syria, where in both instances, the UN is trying to meet the emergency education needs of Palestine refugees in war-ravaged areas where many of their schools damaged and destroyed.

UN hails ratification of disability convention by 150 states as 'major milestone' -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 15 (APP):  Guyana became the latest country to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is widely regarded as the first international human rights treaty of the twenty-first century and one of the fastest to be ratified.

Nawaz, Merkel discuss bilateral ties PDF Print E-mail
app04-25pm-hague.jpgTHE HAGUE, Mar 25 (APP): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met on Tuesday and discussed the matters of mutual interest including bilateral trade. Prime Minister Sharif termed the meeting “productive” that took place on the sidelines of the ‘Nuclear Security Summit’ here.  In an interaction with media persons following the meeting, the Prime Minister said he thanked the German Chancellor for her country’s support for Pakistan to get GSP Plus status. The Prime Minister said the meeting also discussed Pakistan’s relations with India and Afghanistan. He said besides the matters of regional peace and security, the prospects of energy cooperation between Pakistan and Germany were also discussed during the meeting.
The Prime Minister said the German Chancellor acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terror. Merkel also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and contribution for ensuring peace in the region, he added.
With regards to Pakistan-India relations, the Prime Minister said, the German Chancellor was appreciative of the initiative Pakistan was taking to normalize its relations with India.
The Prime Minister, however, mentioned that during the meeting he underlined the importance of solution of Kashmir issue.  
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan attaches special importance to its relations with Germany and hoped that these relations will continue to improve in all fields of cooperation in future.
He said the German Chancellor was keen to continue and improve relations with Pakistan in all fields.
