UN dims lights to focus attention on climate change -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 29 (APP): The United Nations went dark later Saturday evening as the Organization shuts off the lights at its iconic Headquarters complex in New York and other facilities around the world in observance of ‘Earth Hour,’ an annual global event raising awareness about the need to take action on climate change and promoting sustainable energy consumption.


Pakistan renew its commitment to UN peacekeeping at first-ever defence chiefs conference -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP): Pakistan has renewed its commitment to the “noble cause” of United Nations peacekeeping, the world body’s flagship activity that helps countries torn by conflict to create the conditions for lasting peace.


At UN, Pakistan urges action to end violence against religious, ethnic minorities in Mideast -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP):  Pakistan Friday called for U.N. Security Council action to end the religiously and ethnically-motivated violence sweeping the Middle East by promoting a global consensus for resolving the challenges confronting Iraq, Syria, Yemen and “most importantly” Palestine.


US says Pakistan making sincere effort for Afghan peace -
WASHINGTON, March 28 (APP): Pakistan is making a “sincere effort” towards Afghan peace and it wants to make the best use of the “new environment” by aiding a negotiated political settlement to the conflict in the neighboring country, U.S. Special

MELBOURNE, March 29 (APP): Australia won the 11th edition of Cricket World Cup on Sunday when they defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in one-sided final here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (APP): Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz on Sunday urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make Muhammad Hafeez the captain of the One Day side saying currently the all-rounder suits best to lead the team.

MELBOURNE, March 29 (APP): Pakistan cricket team will be undertaking  a tour of Sri Lanka from the second week of June to play a series of 3-match Test, five One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals, a spokesman of Cricket Sri Lanka told reporters here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

RIUJ stages sit in outside Urdu daily PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Apr 30 (APP): Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists staged a sit-in outside an Urdu daily against alleged confinement of 35 journalists’ staff on the order of its Chief Editor.  The journalists under the leadership of RIUJ and National Press Club gathered outside the building of Daily when the abducted journalists sought help against the unlawful confinement. 
Over 100 journalists on the emergeny call of RIUJ rushed to the daily and staged sit-in and chanted slogans against illegal detention portraying middle ages culture of slave mentality by the Chief Editor of the daily..
The abducted Journalists from the windows of building yelled and told the fellow protestors that they have been locked in the News Room.
They were punished by the Chief Editor on demanding pay them for the last couple of months.
RIUJ President Tahir Rathore in his address outside the Daily Building demanded immediate release of abducted Journalists, other staff members and to pay them within a day the salary including dues of the previous months.
He said that newspapers employees were demanding salaries for the last three days but the Editor has refused to pay the same. The workers after refusal of salary payment, observed token strike.
Rathore demanded that if salaries were not paid and anti-law activities were not stopped, the RIUJ will hold protest outside the Parliament House.
President National Press Club Muhammad Afzal Butt also condemned the act of Chief Editor.
General Secretary RIUJ, Bilal Thaheem while addressing the journalists  gathering said that it is unfortunate and regrettable that majority of the lower staff in the newspapers is even getting less than Rs 7000 salary per month.
Local APNEC Chairman Qurban Satti said newspapers workers discharged their duties day and night with dedication but in return they were humiliated.
Later President RIUJ Tahir Rathore, President NPC Afzal Butt, RIUJ General Secretary Bilal Thaheem, Local APNEC Qurban Satti, former RIUJ President Shehryar Khan and scores of demonstrators went to Aabpara Police Station and lodged a written complaint duly signed
by the confined staff of the Urdu Daily.
