Mian Shams criticises Shahbaz Sharif silence on Taliban PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, March 3 (APP): Deputy Secretary Information, Pakistan Peoples Party, Mian Shams on Thursday critised the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over his silence on Taliban and alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz seemed to have soft corner for religious groups in the province for political gains.
He said Shahbaz Sharif while talking to reporters after visiting the house of assassinated Federal Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, to condole his death with his family, was asked whether Taliban are terrorists. The chief minister replied, “Don’t ask such a question” and refused to make any comment, he added.
PPP Deputy Secretary Information commenting on Shahbaz Sharif’s reply to the said question stated that refusal of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif raised questions in the minds of the nation.
He said the assassinated Punjab Governor Salman Taseer had also alleged that senior Punjab Minister Rana Sanaullah had had links with banned outfit in Punjab.
He said that Shahbaz Sharif also issued cowardly and controversial statement requesting Taliban to spare Punjab province after the assassination of Mufti Naeemi in suicide bomb blast in Lahore, as if they were in alliance with the ruling party in the province.
Awami National Party’s (ANP) spokesman Zahid Khan also said it was unfortunate that the chief minister of a big province is not calling a spade a spade.
He said the country is grippled with terrorism and there is greater need of unity among all sections of society and political parties to fight the war on terror.
Secretary General of All Pakistan Muslim League Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said it is the policy of  PML-N to use religious forces for its political gains because it is the product of dictator, who ruled the country in the name of Islam for 11 years.
When PML-N spokesman Siddiq-ul-Farooq was contacted to comment he said whatever Shahbaz Sharif said is final and he will not make any further comment, he added.
