Pakistani delegation arrives for IPU-UN hearing on world drug problem -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 8 (APP): A two-member Pakistan parliamentary  delegation has arrived in New York to participate in a hearing at United Nations Headquarters organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the U.N. on the world drug problem.The delegation is composed of National Assembly members -- Nawab Yousuf Talpur (leader) and Ms. Asiya Nasir.


U.N. Security Council slams North Korea's missile launch -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 7 (APP): The U.N. Security Council Sunday strongly condemned North Korea's missile launch and vowed to "expeditiously" adopt a new resolution with "significant" new sanctions against Pyongyang. In a statement issued statement after an emergency meeting on Sunday, the 15-member Council underscored that launches using ballistic missile technology, "even if characterized as a satellite launch or space launch vehicle" contribute to North Korea's development of systems to deliver nuclear weapons.



Highly radioactive leak found at NY nuclear plant -
NEW YORK, Feb 7 (APP): New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for an investigation after an apparent overflow at a nuclear power plant spilled highly radioactive water into an underground monitoring well, but nuclear regulators said the public was not at risk. Officials at the Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, New York,  reported that water contaminated by tritium leaked into the groundwater under the facility.

UNSC to hold emergency meeting on North Korea missile launch -
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 7 (APP): The United Nations Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss the North Korean missile launch, as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Pyongyang to  halt its "provocative actions and return to compliance with its international obligations. Following a request by United States, Japan and South Korea, the 15-nation Council  will hold closed-door consultations on Sunday, the U.N. press office said.

35th CAS Open Golf Championship from February 11-14
KARACHI, Feb 8 (APP): 35th Chief of The Air Staff (CAS) Open Golf Championship will be held here from February 11 to 14 at Airmen Golf Course PAF Base, Korangi Creek. More than 300 professional and amateur golfers from all over Pakistan are playing for Rs 3.2 million prize championship, it was official announced here Monday.

 
PCB seeks more time in announcing T20 squads
ISLAMABAD, Feb 8 (APP): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday sought a couple of days time from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in announcing squads for the Twenty-20 World Cup and Asia Cup. The T20 World Cup will be held in India from March 8 to April 3 while the Asia Cup will be staged in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6. Feb. 8 was supposed to be the deadline for World Cup-bound squad.

 
WI stun Pak to storms in ICC World U19 CWC despite Umairs' ton
KARACHI, Feb 8 (APP): Umair Masood smashed a fighting century but his grand effort went in van as West Indies stunned Pakistan by five wickets to storm into the semi-final of ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Fataullah (Bangladesh) on Monday. Batting first, Pakistan posted 226 for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs.West Indies in reply romped home for the loss of five wickets with 10 overs to spare.

 
Indo-Pak Friendship Cup Snooker series would be revived: Alamgir
KARACHI, Feb 8 (APP): The popular Indo-Pak Peace Cup Snooker series would be revived, President Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Alamgir Shaikh said here on Monday. "We are working on plan to resume the series after lapse of six years," he told reporters during the launch of 41st National Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana.

LARKANA, March 1 (APP):  Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh/ Provincial Police Officer(PPO) Azhar Farooqi Saturday called upon police jawans to serve the people in their respective areas with the provision of justice, to protect life and honour of the people at their door steps.

He was addressing a darbar of Police Jawans at the ground of Police Training School (PTS) Larkana, on Saturday.

He called upon the police officials to be polite and accommodative in upkeeping the justice.

The IG Sindh/ PPO also called upon the SHOs to mend their behaviour while dealing with the masses.

Referring to the grievances of policemen with reference to “out of turn” promotions he said an inquiry is being conducted to ascertain what led to certain suspicious inductions in the provincial police force, violating the relevant procedures besides rapid promotions and demotions of police offficials.

IG Police Sindh promised to deliver justice, however, he also said it will take time to ascertain merit and violation of merit.

He stressed the SHOs for quick disposal of cases needed to be submitted before the Court of Law.

He also directed carrying out massive crackdown against criminals and said pressure or influence from any quarter should not deter the police in the campaign.

“We should send a clear signal to the criminals and outlaws that this is a state and not a jungle,” he said.

IG Police Sindh/ PPO called upon the police personnel to be dutiful, proficient and honest.

He announced 10 computers for PTS Larkana for law classes and Rs 45,000/ for the library of PTS.

I.G Sindh further announced that motorcycles would be provided to various police stations to control the street crime across Sindh and particularly Larkana and Sukkur zones of Sukkur police region and in this regard directed RPO Sukkur to provide him a list of  police stations to carry out this programme.

Appreciating the services rendered by Police Jawans during the Muharram- ul- Haram and Elections-2008 he said  they offered their services in a proper way, and added, the required funds for the construction of drainage system of Police Line quarters will be released soon.

He said  a report on SNE for new police stations may be sent to Police Head Quarter Karachi, so that new police stations should be set up at the required places, besides compensation would be provided accordingly to the injured and martyred police officials.

IG Police Sindh said the lawyers would be hired to face the cases, which have been registered against  police officials by the outlaws.

Meanwhile on the occasion, Principal PTS  Nisar Ahmed Brohi welcomed IGP Sindh and gave him a presentation about the problems of PTS Larkana. IG Sindh also visited a model Police Station established in PTS.

The police darbar was also attended by RPO Sukkur Police Region Rahoo Khan Brohi, DIG Police Larkana Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, DPOs of Larkana and Sukkur Zones.

Earlier, IGP Sindh presided over a high level meeting to review the law and order situation in Larkana, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Sukkur, Shikapur of Sukkur Police region at DIG office Larkana, which was attended by RPO Sukkur Rahoo Khan Brohi, DIG Larkana Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti and DPOs of Shikarpur, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot- Kashmore and Kamber-Shahdadkot districts.
