Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Bill smoothly sails through NA

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): The National Assembly on Thursday passed the Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Bill 2015 aimed at brining the local governments elections within the purview of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab moved the Bill to further amend the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974 [The Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Bill 2015] in the House.

The Bill has already been passed by the Senate with amendments.
The statement of objects and reasons of the bill says, under Article 140A of the Constitution the power to hold election of the local government stand vested in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
