ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved a plan for Annual Revision of Electoral Rolls for the year 2016 in which all New National Identity Card (NIC) holders shall be made part of the Electoral Rolls.
While those who have become disqualified (dead/canceled NICs) shall be excluded from the rolls after their door-to-door verification.
In a media briefing here Wednesday the Secretary ECP Babar Yaqub said ECP has started campaign to include the names of new Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) holders in electoral rolls.
He said door to door verification drive began today during which voters who have become disqualified will also be excluded from the rolls. The secretary said verification process will continue till 29th of this month.
For the said purpose verifying officials shall visit the addresses of the new CNIC holders and deceased voters simultaneously, he added.
He informed that voter count is expected to increase from 93 million to approximately 97-98 millions after the said revision process.
Babar Yaqoob said after door-to-door verification the said lists will be displayed at designated display centers, offices of District Election Commissioners/Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers for public inspection.
General public/ voters can check their vote status by sending their NIC number to 8300 SMS through their mobile phones, he said.
He said applications for enrollment/transfer, correction and deletion of votes would be submitted on prescribed forms at designated display centers, offices of District Election Commissioners/Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers.
According to this plan all pre-requisites (administrative arrangements) of the revision process are completed which included appointment of Assistant Registration Officers, verifying officials, display centre In-charge and their necessary trainings, printing and supply of forms and lists (additions, deletions), and establishment of display centers.
List of display centers would also be made available on ECP’s official website soon, he informed.
It was also decided that effective monitoring would also be carried out throughout the process of Annual Revision.
To make the revision process successful, general public/ voters, media and CSOs are requested to extend their cooperation.
A very important event of the entire campaign would be the celebration of National Voters Day which is going to be held on December 7.
