ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (APP): Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) Friday accorded approval of new Telecom Policy-2015 to help promote sector in the country.
The previous policy was issued in 2003 and was required to renew in 2008 but due to lack of previous government interest, the policy could not be renewed.
The present government, after coming into power decided to launch new telecom policy, keeping in view of its importance for telecom sector.
Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoIT), under the able leadership of Minister of State, Mrs. Anusha Rahman got approval from ECC after two years struggle.
According to the Ministry here, the new telecom policy covers all modern needs of the sector as matters relating to spectrum sharing, satellite communication and Over the Top (OTT) have been included which were not part of the previous policy.
The new telecom policy would help promote the sector in the country.
