DG SBP, Zaheer Abbas inaugurate cricket academies

British delegation calls on DG Sport Punjab

LAHORE, Nov 29 (APP):- Director General Sports Punjab, Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman and Head of Cricket Coaching Academies SBP Zaheer Abbas inaugurated Sports Board Punjab’s cricket coaching academies at APS Boys High School Model Town and Pilot Secondary School for Boys Wahdat Road here on Tuesday.

Academies SBP Zaheer Abbas were warmly received at both the academies. Director Sports Muhammad Anees Sheikh, Deputy Director Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Tariq Wattoo and Assistant Director Waqas Akbar were also present on the occasions.

A number of young students also witnessed the opening ceremonies at both the venues.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman said
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was giving top priority to the promotion of sports in the province.

“There is plenty of talent in Pakistan and we are making efforts to polish the raw talent by establishing academies in various parts of  the province. These academies will be beneficial to a great extent for Pakistan cricket. After some time we will be able to provide sufficient back up talent to national cricket team,” he added.

Zaheer Abbas said Sports Board Punjab under the leadership of DG SBP is taking effective measures to give equal opportunities to talented youngsters of the province. “The way Sports Board Punjab is giving
emphasis to provide the best training facilities to potential youngsters
we can expect that Pakistan will have several world class players out of these talented players in near future,” he elaborated.

The Principal of APS Boys High School Model Town appreciated the
establishment of cricket academy at the school saying that SBP has won the hearts of young players by launching top level academy under the supervision of cricket legend Zaheer Abbas. “It’s also a great honour for all of us to have legendary cricketer Zaheer Abbas in our school,” he said.

It is worth mentioning here that four cricket academies have already
been launched in recent weeks under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) at Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Lahore (women academy at Kinnaird College) and Multan.
