ISLAMABAD, Nov 15 (APP): The inquiry committee, which probed the Gaddani incident, Tuesday submitted its report to the Prime Minister office, mentioning ‘absolutely inadequate’ labour safety measures behind the tragedy.
“The committee noticed that the safety measures for the labour working at Gaddani are absolutely inadequate,” said a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence Production here.
The committee suggested identification of responsibilities of government as well as shippers to take safety and security measures for the labour.
“In this regard report emphasized on taking practical steps,” it added.
The committee has recommended to constitute a Ship Recycling Board Gaddani (SRBG) under the supervision of Chief Secretary Balochistan, which would be responsible to fully implement the committee recommendations to avoid such incidents in future.
“The board will be fully equipped to prevent such disasters in future,”
it added.
The committee has also recommended disciplinary action against those
who showed negligence that caused the tragedy, besides financial compensation for the victims and their families.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had formed the committed headed by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain to investigate the incident at Gaddani Shipyard that claimed several precious lives.
