Civil Quarters Senior win Peshawar District Inter-Club Hockey title

PESHAWAR, Oct 27 (APP): Civil Quarters Senior clinched the trophy after defeating Prince Club in the final of the Peshawar District Inter-Club Hockey Championship played here at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Former World Champion Qamar Zaman was the chief guest on this occasion. Secretary KP Hockey Association Syed Zahir Shah, President Peshawar District Hockey Association Haji Hidayat Ullah, Secretary Ayaz Muhammad, officials, players were also present.
The final match produced great thrill for the small group of spectators
as Civil Quarters Senior defeated Prince Hockey Club by 4-3. Wahab opened the account for Civil Quarters Club through field attempt in the 14th minute of the match but soon right winger Saeed leveled the tally when he scored a field goal for Prince Club in the 22nd minute. When both teams were locked 1-1, their forwards raided on each other defence with some fine moves were also witnessed.
It was in the 43rd minute when Wahab scored a field goal on the field attempt while full-back Ijaz made it 3-1 when he converted a penalty corner. Ijaz saw his dragged push into the upper corner of the goal-post.
On the other hand Prince Club also kept up pressure and managed their
position according to the situation and despite conceding three goals succeeded in reducing the margin when Fawad and Faraz, the two promising forwards netted a goal each to make the tally 3-3.
It was the dying moments when Civil Quarters Senior’s right winger Said Shah slammed in a winner goal and thus Civil Quarters Senior marched into victory at 4-3. Haroon Khan and Hamza supervised the final while Tehsin Ullah and Master Khan acted as field judges.
At the end, the chief guest Qamar Zaman gave away trophies and cash
prizes to the winners and runners-up. The winner was awarded Rs 10,000 while the runners up team got Rs 7000 cash prize. Now the winner team of Peshawar District will play the winners clubs of Charsadda and Nowshera and among them the winner will represent Peshawar Region in the forthcoming Inter-Region Hockey Championship to be starting from November 13, 2016 at the same venue.
Qamar Zaman also lauded the efforts of the KP Hockey Association for organizing hockey at club level wherein a total of 11 clubs from District Peshawar took part.
