Chinese naval fleet participating in AMAN-19 maritime exercise in Karachi

BEIJING, Feb 9 (APP:A Chinese naval fleet has joined the multinational AMAN-19 maritime exercise being conducted in Karachi with an aim to promote maritime exchanges and cooperation among the participating countries and jointly enhance their capabilities to deal with maritime security threats.China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Oman, and other countries have sent ships, aircraft or special forces to participate in the five-day exercise which will continue till February 12, according to Chinese defense ministry statement issued here.
The exercise, organized by Pakistan Navy has two major phases including harbor and sea phase. Harbor activities would include seminars, discussions, and demonstrations.
A three-day International Maritime Conference will also be held on the topic of “Global Geopolitics in Transition: Rethinking Maritime Dynamics in the Indian Ocean Region.” The navies will do practical exercise in the sea during the sea phase.
AMAN series of multinational exercises were started in 2007 with a view to promoting regional cooperation and stability, greater interoperability, and displaying a united resolve against terrorism and crimes in the maritime domain including piracy. It is the 7th such exercise being held in the Arabian Sea off-shores of Pakistan’s Karachi.
