Boundary Wall around QAU vital for effective security: Vice Chancellor

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9 (APP): Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University
(QAU) Dr Javed Ashraf on Wednesday termed the erection of boundary
wall around the institution, vital to ensure effective security arrangements.
“We need heavy funds for the construction of boundary wall as the university spreads on a vast area” he told APP.
He said mafia had reportedly encroached the varsity land, which is going unchecked by any authority.
He made it clear that the university premises was not secure as per the security point of view because QAU did not have any boundary wall, which is not being allowed by the CDA.
Vice Chancellor QAU said there is lack of resources and power to kick those elements out who are encroaching the varsity land. He said despite alerts, being issued by the security departments from time to time, the QAU was vulnerable to any threat.
He said the university had its own 130 security guards which were not sufficient in the prevailing security scenario and without having the boundary wall. However, he stressed for a permanent security check post consisting police and Rangers for regular patrolling in the varsity jurisdiction.
Dr Javed Ashraf said the administration has not provided support to the university till now to make its security fully strict.
When contacted, Islamabad police source said that patrolling teams of Secretariat police stations patrol around the surroundings of the university. He said that Islamabad police chief Tariq Masood Yasin had already informed the Senate Body in July 2016 about foiling terrorist attack in QAU.
Since then, the source said that security around the vicinity of QAU has been enhanced and efforts are underway to make it more effective.
He said that QAU administration should also make serious efforts
as joint collaboration with police can be ensured for comprehensive security.
