Barkat Ullah wins Khurshid Alam Khan Memorial Tennis trophy


PESHAWAR, Nov 14 (APP): National ranking player and promising Barkat Ullah clinched the trophy of the Men’s singles of first Khurshid Alam Khan Memorial Tennis Tournament played here at Synthetic Courts Qayyum Sports Complex on Monday.
Former Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah was the chief guest on this
occasion. Director Anti-Corruption, Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zeb Ullah Khan, Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, Zaid Alam Khan, President KP Tennis Association Dr. Tahir, Organizing Secretary Omar Ayaz and large number of spectators and spectators were present and witnessed the thrilling final played between Barkat Ullah and Saqib Umar.
Besides thrilling Men’s singles final 10-year-old Hamza Roman also
handed an upsetting defeat to his strong rival top seeded Kashan Umar in a marathon 2-1 final lasted for one hour and 20 minutes.
It was the final of the Men singles when both Barkat Ullah and Saqib
Umar gave each other a tough fight. Barkat Ullah lost the first set by 4-6 when Saqib Umar exhibited classic display of forceful smashes and attacking display. Saqib Umar, a baseline player, twice broke Barkat Ullah and thus won the first set by 4-6 wherein both were also locked at 4-4 in the set.
It was the second set in which Barkat Ullah managed his position
accordingly and played well determination by putting Saqib Umar on the wrong end with attacking display. Barkat Ullah got the second set by 6-3 and did the same in the third and decisive set where both were locked at 6-6 before Barkat Ullah took the set by 7-5. Thus Barkat Ullah won the match 4-6, 6-3 and 7-5.
In the Under-14 final top seed Shoaib Khan defeated Aqib Umar in another thrilling encounter lasted for one and half hours, the score was 7-5 (6-6), 4-6 and 6-4. Both Shoiab Khan and Aqib Umar gave each other a tough fight. The match was also enjoyed by capacity crowd present on this occasion. Aqib earlier recorded semi-final victory against Abdullah at 6-2, 3-6 and 6-1 and Shoaib beat Hamza Roman by 6-2 and 6-3.
In the Under-12 final national under-10 champion Hamza Roman upset
Kashan Umar at 2-1, the score was 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Both Hamza and Kashan Umar played well and gave each a tough resistance. Kashan beat Hamid Israr and Hamza beat Shahsawar in the semi-finals.
At the end, the chief guest Syed Aqil Shah, Director Anti-Corruption, KP Zeb Ullah Khan, Tariq Mehmood, Zaid Alam Khan gave away trophies and cash prizes. Syed Aqil Shah lauded the efforts of the KP Tennis Association for holding the event named after former IGP late Khurshid Alam Khan. He urged upon the govt to extend all out support to the talented players by announcing incentives for those who performed at national levels.
He said it is astonishing to see that the govt is miserably failed in
facilitating the upcoming youngsters. He demanded of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to intervene in the present alarming situation wherein talented players are being ignored.
Syed Aqil Shah also emphasized on the need to appoint coaches of various games so that they could come and train upcoming youngsters. Zeb Ullah Khan while representing the govt, disclosed that the present govt is giving due importance to sports and that is why steps have been taken for ensuring provision of playing fields to the youth all across KP.
