AIOU opens its libraries for general public


ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will keep open it libraries at its 44 regional offices all over the country seven days a week from 8 am to 7 pm daily for general public in order to promote books’ reading habit.
“We welcome students from other than the AIOU” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing a seminar held here Monday for capacity-building of its librarians, working at the regional centers.
He spoke about the important role of libraries in overcoming knowledge gap and providing input to the students in doing research work at higher education level.
The AIOU is in a process of upgrading its libraries’ network through smart use of new technology. The libraries have also been connected with HEC’s digital library.
Meanwhile, in a rare development, the University has also arranged E-learning facility (Accessibility Center) at its thirty-eight regional offices to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
The rest of the regional offices were being equipped with the same facility.
The students in these libraries will also have the facility to get internet scanned copy of the University’s text books and other study material.
The VC also shared with the participants his new initiatives taken during the last two years particularly for promoting research culture, professional development and strengthening students’ support system.
